A graffiti work of Nelson Mandela by international artist Shepard Fairey; the iconic Jo’burg skyline; a host of hipster coffee spots and inventive architecture – Braamfontein is an

Instagrammer’s bonanza.

Especially breathtaking during jacaranda season (generally October), the view from this swanky hotel stretches across Jo’burg’s leafy parks and lake of evergreen trees. It’s just darn pretty and makes you realise (if you do), why you love Jo’burg. For nosh, check out Flame - open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner. t 011 481 6000

The tallest building in Africa. It’s 730 feet tall, with 50 floors! There’s a viewing deck on the 50th floor from which you can see just about everything in Jo’burg for fifteen bucks. Open daily from 9.30am - 3.30pm. Your best bet is to book for it via www.citysightseeing.co.za – who run hop-on/off bus tours all over Jo’burg (more photo ops!).

Part of these beloved Koppies were declared a nature reserve in 1959 and the area feels kind of wild, even though not being far from the city proper. There are more than 200 bird species as well as cultural relics in these hills. Melville Koppies Central is always locked and has controlled access for people on scheduled organised tours and hikes. Be security conscious when walking on the public open space section of Melville Koppies East.
